The Indian government is saddened by the death of former Meghalaya Home Minister HDR Lyngdog, who died at age 66. Part of the Indian ministry has passed, and his family and supporters are very sad about it. Sources say that HDR Lyngdoh was killed on Monday, February 20, 2023, while campaigning for the upcoming state assembly election. He ran for the Sohiong assembly in East Khasi hills as a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP). Now, 59 out of the 60 assembly constituencies in the state will not have elections. Media reports say that HDR Lyngdoh died after suddenly falling while campaigning for an election. He was taken to the hospital after that. Lyngdoh ran for office in 2018 on a Congress ticket but lost. According to the reports, the UDP candidate from Sohiong will run in the elections on February 27, 2023. The doctor at the hospital said that he was dead. HDR Lyngdoh was 66 years old when he passed away. Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, tweeted his sadness over the politician’s death, saying, “Shri HDR Lyngdoh served the state in many ways over the years and was a dedicated leader to the people.” Meghalaya lost a lot with his death. May his spirit rest in peace.”
HDR Lyngdog Died Because of What?
Well, HDR Lyngdoh had already been the representative for the district for a long time. Samlin Malngiang of the Hills State People’s Democratic Party beat him in the last election, which did not go well for him. His friends and family called him Maheh, and he was the Home Minister in the Congress government led by Dr. Mukul Sangma. On a Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) ticket, he was elected as an MLA for the first time from Sohiong in 1988 and stayed in office until 1998.
But RA Lyngdoh of the United Democratic Party beat him to the seat in 1998. (UDP). In 1999, he won from the Sohiong-Nongspung constituency as an MDC candidate running on the Congress ticket. Lyngdoh’s dead body will be taken to Laitumkhrah, where he lives. People who cared about Donkupar Lyngdoh and were close to him gathered at Bethany Hospital Shillong to pay their respects.
